Protection from Image-based Spam

In recent months, Barracuda Central has recorded a nearly 500 percent increase in image-based spam. In a large number of these cases, many of these images also contain text. Using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) techniques in combination with unique fingerprint methods, the Barracuda Spam Firewall has proven to be an effective protective force against image-based spam. Fingerprint analysis is capable of blocking image spam regardless of whether images contain text.

Barracuda Networks also developed methods to uniquely fingerprint components of spam messages, including images. Barracuda Central collects these spam fingerprints from honeypots as well as from thousands of Barracuda Spam Firewalls belonging to customers who opt-in to submit spam messages for analysis.
